How Fishing Works in Fields of Mistria
To catch fish in Fields of Mistria you buy a rod at the Beach tackle shop, then cast into a shadow. The shadow size appears first and decides which eligible fish you can reel in. Each successful catch costs a fixed 12 stamina, and — importantly — time of day does not change the fish you can catch.
Surface fish depend on season, water type, and sometimes weather (rain, storm, snow, or windy). The current 1.0 logic does not check time of day, so older guides that split fish into Morning or Night lists are outdated. Mine fish ignore season and weather entirely.

Mid-size shadow with common seasonal catches and some high-value fish.
Large
Bigger catches, often weather-gated or higher value.

The rarest shadow, reserved for the biggest fish like Paddlefish and Oarfish.

The museum's fish wing has 22 donation sets totaling 109 pieces, spanning seasonal river, pond, and ocean sets, plus bait, trap, deep woods, mines, and legendary sets. Completing sets awards treasure boxes and fishing-themed furniture recipes.
Mines, Bait & Fish Traps
Beyond seasonal fishing, five mine biomes each have a fixed fish set, bait-exclusive fish need Common, Uncommon, or Rare Fish Bait, and passive Fish Traps collect Amberjack, Blue Crab, Hake, Sea Urchin, and Bait Thief.
You'll see numbers like 109, 140, 148, or 172 for Fields of Mistria fish. These are different counting methods: the 109-piece museum collection versus broader planners and almanacs that include bait, trap, dive, and non-fish aquatic items.
